About Our Council

Founded by Fr. Michael McGivney of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, the Knights of Columbus was chartered by the State of Connecticut in March 1882 as a fraternal benefit society. The Knights were formed to provide mutual aid and financial assistance to widows and orphans....the Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.
In its 126th year, the Knights of Columbus has grown to more than 13,000 councils and 1.7 million members, contributing time and energy worldwide to their communities through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, and public relief works.
